We were initially inspired to encapsulate an arrangement of physical film negatives in the walls of a mirrored structure as an exploration of the materiality of physical film by passing light through it. The concept evolved into a creating an experience reminiscent of being in the presence of a physical projector - the physical film radiating from the light in the side walls is meant to represent projected light radiating out of the light source.

Firstly the frame of the structure was built out of wood and painted in metallic silver. Film stills were then  printed and fixed in rotatable segments to a small diamond frame which was wired to suspend at the outer walls in front of a light fixture on each wall. Next, the strips were affixed to a larger frame of the same shape which was suspended in front of the smaller frame and then again back to the outer wall at regular intervals to create a splayed effect. Large mirrored metal pieces were then installed on the inner roof and outer walls to increase visual interest and interactivity.

The final build was so well received that Grolsch asked to have it displayed for some days following the Gala at the Bier Markt on King street, for multiple Grolsch Spaces TIFF-themed music events.
